Income Protection pays a regular (currently tax-free) income in the event of illness, accident, or disability after a pre-arranged deferred period. This can be as little as one day or up to two years depending on how you are employed. If the inability to work is severe enough, then the benefit can be arranged to continue up to normal retirement age.
There are a number of specialist providers that will pay out if you are unable to return to work in your previous capacity as a vet. This is known as “Own Occupation” cover, and many providers do not offer this and stop paying benefits if you can return to work in any capacity, such as stacking shelves in a supermarket.
